*sshole: OpenSSH password bypass on musl Linux

CVE-2026-123158

An authentication bypass in OpenSSH's sshd on musl-based Linux without PAM, including Alpine's default package, lets attackers log in to accounts with no password set.

Risk

With password logins enabled, an unauthenticated attacker can log in to passwordless accounts if another account has a $5$ or $6$ hash. Neither OpenSSH nor Alpine had reported exploitation as of November 6.

Recommended action

Update OpenSSH to 10.6p2 or your distribution's fixed package, then restart sshd. If you cannot update yet, set PasswordAuthentication no and restart sshd.

Linux IPv4 TCP use-after-free

CVE-2026-98432

A race condition in Linux's IPv4 TCP connection handling can expose kernel memory, crash a host, or allow remote code execution before application authentication.

Risk

Researchers demonstrated root command execution against MPTCP listeners; other IPv4 TCP services may also be affected. Reports reviewed on November 2 did not confirm real-world attacks.

Recommended action

Install your distribution's fixed kernel and verify it is running after a reboot or vendor-supported activation. Updating containers alone does not patch the host.

php2shell

CVE-2026-109618 · CVE-2026-109619 · CVE-2026-115560

PHP runtime flaws can let unauthenticated attackers run code; a related session upload progress flaw affects applications with specific session settings.

Risk

CISA lists the original two flaws as known exploited. Exploitation of the separate session upload progress flaw was unconfirmed in the November 2 review.

Recommended action

Update the PHP runtime using the vendor advisory, and assess CVE-2026-115560 separately. Ask your hosting provider to confirm fixes if it manages PHP.

eMudhra certificate compromise

Eight compromised eMudhra intermediate certificates could enable server impersonation and interception of traffic where affected certificates remain trusted.

Risk

Researchers found that some clients still accepted affected certificate chains, allowing forged certificates to pass validation.

Recommended action

Apply the trust-store and client updates in the official response to systems that still trust the affected intermediates.

node2shell

CVE-2026-111497

CVE-2026-111497 is a memory-corruption flaw in the shared Brotli decoder. Any service that decompresses attacker-controlled Brotli, in a request or an HTTP response, can be exposed.

Risk

The decoder is used beyond Node.js, including in server-side fetches. The October 25 review did not confirm active exploitation.

Recommended action

Update or remove vulnerable Brotli decoders using each vendor's guidance, including copies bundled with runtimes or container images.

Citrix NetScaler command execution

CVE-2026-88771

An unauthenticated attacker can execute commands on affected NetScaler ADC and Gateway appliances, including default configurations.

Risk

Citrix reports exploitation of unmitigated appliances. Attackers can compromise affected gateways before sign-in, including deployments using the default configuration.

Recommended action

Update affected appliances using Citrix's bulletin. Investigate suspected compromise using the vendor's incident-response guidance.

WordPress SQL injection and RCE

CVE-2026-60137 · CVE-2026-63030

Two related WordPress flaws can expose database contents and allow unauthenticated code execution through distinct SQL-injection and REST API attack paths.

Risk

Affected sites can be compromised before sign-in. The July 20 review did not confirm active exploitation.

Recommended action

Check each site's WordPress version and apply the vendor's update or backport guidance. Keep compensating controls in place during remediation.
